Earlier, Hyundai Motor Group and Aptiv jointly established the autonomous driving joint venture Motional. It was recently reported that they will choose Ambarella’s CVflow series of artificial intelligence processors to provide image and computer vision processing for their driverless vehicles.
The CVflow series of artificial intelligence processors will include Ambarella CVflow SoC chips. The CVflow artificial intelligence engine can accelerate Motional algorithms. This series has ultra-low power consumption to perform efficient and complex machine vision tasks, such as object detection, classification and image segmentation. Ambarella’s image processing technology can help driverless cars to cope with various extreme lighting environments such as low illumination and high contrast. The H.264 high-efficiency encoding technology of the Ambarella SoC records all video data from in-vehicle cameras.
Motional recently became one of the first companies in the world to actually deploy driverless cars on public roads, and Motional is currently testing fully driverless cars in Las Vegas.
