Silicon Labs teams up with Amazon to help devices work more smoothly at home and outdoors

Silicon Labs (also known as Silicon Labs, NASDAQ: SLAB), a leading supplier of chips, software and solutions dedicated to building a smarter, more connected world, announced a partnership with Amazon to support Amazon Sidewalk, a A shared network created by sharing a portion of Wi-Fi bandwidth between adjacent areas can help devices work more smoothly at home and outdoors.


Silicon Labs’ wireless solution for Amazon Sidewalk enables developers to create IoT products with encrypted cloud communications regardless of the protocol used. Silicon Labs’ EFR Wireless Gecko family of products supports Sidewalk’s sub-GHz and Bluetooth® Low Energy protocols.

Sidewalk, run by Amazon and available to users for free, can help simplify the installation and setup of new devices, extend the operating range of low-bandwidth devices, and help devices stay online and update even outside home Wi-Fi coverage. With Amazon Sidewalk, users can experience enhanced smart device coverage in their home, around their home, and throughout their neighborhood, have limited offline connectivity for applications such as mobile alerts for security cameras, and receive customer support during Wi-Fi outages to troubleshoot and easily set up new devices.

In the future, Sidewalk will support new device experiences, such as tools that can self-diagnose problems and order replacement parts, will also provide smart door locks with wider coverage and lower energy consumption, and the ability to locate your pets or valuables.

Equipped with multiple layers of security and privacy features, Amazon Sidewalk will support technologies such as Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), Frequency Shift Keying (FSK) and Chirp Spread Spectrum (CSS) in the 900 MHz band.
