Liu Yunjie believes that in the past few decades, the Internet has subverted the traditional telephone network with low cost and high connectivity, and has achieved great success in the consumer market. However, as the Internet enters the real economy, the Internet’s “best effort” model cannot meet the needs of the real economy for deterministic networks, and it is also difficult to provide the ability for large connections. The large-scale deployment of 5G this year has the characteristics of large connections and low latency. If it cannot provide deterministic network capabilities, it cannot produce “killer” applications in vertical industries. Industry applications such as the Internet of Vehicles, Industrial Internet, and holographic communication require the network to meet key indicators such as low latency, low jitter, and low bit rate according to their respective needs and pain points.

Therefore, in order to enter vertical industries and serve the real economy, the network must be customizable. Operators will no longer provide pipelines, but will operate networks and increase the utilization efficiency of the Internet from 50% to 90%. Liu Yunjie proposed the architecture of “service customization network” to help operators achieve this goal.

Liu Yunjie mentioned that there are three main technologies to realize service customization network. One is the network operating system, which adds a “brain” to the network and builds an all-scenario, fully compatible, high-performance, and intelligent network operating system. According to reports, the operating system developed by the Future Network Lab has been running stably on the operator’s large network for more than three years, including 1,100 nodes in 400 cities.

The second is cloud-network integration, realizing multi-cloud interconnection and cloud-edge integration, turning the cloud into a sharable network resource, and the network as an integral part of the cloud.

The third is deterministic network. The Future Network Lab has cooperated with Huawei to achieve a breakthrough, and completed a transmission distance of more than 2,000 kilometers. The end-to-end delay and jitter control index is less than 30 microseconds.

Liu Yunjie revealed that the Future Network Innovation Research Institute took the lead in undertaking the construction of a major national scientific and technological infrastructure – the Future Network Experimental Facility (CENI) project, which has covered more than 40 cities and built more than 130 edge networks, completely adopting a new service network architecture. In the Yangtze River Delta and the Greater Bay Area, a service customization network has been opened, and economic circles such as Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei and Chengdu-Chongqing are also under planning.
