On April 12, 2022, Dalian General Holdings, a leading semiconductor component distributor dedicated to the Asia-Pacific market, announced that its subsidiary World Peace has launched a low-voltage brushless motor application solution based on the MindMotion MM32SPIN360C chip.

Due to the simple mechanical structure of the brushless DC motor, it must be equipped with a corresponding drive circuit, and the MCU needs to generate the waveform required by the motor to control the rotation of the motor. For the design of brushless motor drive, Dalian University Shiping has launched a brushless motor drive solution based on MindMotion MM32SPIN360C, which can be applied to a variety of motor drive occasions.

In the main control part of the core, the MM32SPIN360C used in this solution is a high-performance microcontroller under MindMotion. It uses the Arm Cortex-M0 core, the highest operating frequency can reach 96MHz, and has built-in high-speed memory, rich I/O ports and a variety of peripherals, including: 2 12-bit ADCs, 3 comparators, 3 operational amplifiers , 1 16-bit general-purpose timer, 1 32-bit general-purpose timer, 3 16-bit basic timers, 2 16-bit advanced timers, etc.

MindMotion, founded in 2011, is a local supplier of general-purpose 32-bit MCU products and solutions in China. The company’s products are based on Arm Cortex-M series cores and have the ability to independently develop software, hardware and ecosystems. Smart Microelectronics is one of the few local MCU companies in China that has obtained official support from Arm-KEIL, IAR, and SEGGER at the same time, and has established an independent and complete general-purpose MCU ecosystem, which can provide customers with hardware chips to software algorithms, from Various support from reference scheme to system design.

In addition, this scheme uses 6 N-MOS transistors in the motor drive part for the Electronic commutation control of the motor. The chip selected is Nexperia’s PXN012-60QL. PXN012-60QL has the characteristics of small size and low power consumption. The drain-source voltage (VDSS) can reach 60V, the continuous leakage current (Id) can reach 42A, and the switching frequency can reach more than 30KHz. Based on the above design advantages, this solution can meet the motor drive requirements of applications such as purifiers, server fans, ceiling fans, floor fans, electric hand tools, vacuum cleaners, drone ESCs, and small water pumps.
